If you’ve ever dreamed of proudly protecting and serving, now is your chance: the next Massachusetts Police Officer & State Trooper Examination will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The deadline to apply for the test is March 18, 2013; late applications are subject to an additional $50 processing fee, and no applications will be accepted after April 1, 2013.

The exam consists of three sections and tests applicants’ intelligence, work styles, and life experiences. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, able to pass a physical fitness test, and not smoke tobacco. You can find more information about the exam, including a fee waiver application, here. If you’d like to read up on the examination, please read this helpful document from the Human Resources Division.

Being a police officer is less a job and more of a way of life. It’s not for everyone, but as the son of a Cambridge police officer, I can tell you that it is a rewarding career and an opportunity to directly improve the lives of your neighbors. I encourage everyone who’s interested, but especially our returning veterans, to consider applying.
